Toms are fun to mic or record. They're sufficient on rack toms but don't like them on floor toms. Don't expect stellar sound quality. You can't beat the sound as I believe they are absolutely the best tom mics I've ever used. It's a budget mic and not such a budget price. I use these on toms and have never had an issue. But it is definately better because of the 604's very fast transient response. Their size and rim mounting system work great. It's a great mic and very versatile. I have long loved the sound of MD421s on toms (and kick for that matter) so when these came out and claimed to offer at least a little of that mojo in a compact package I was very interested. Sweetwater Sound The Sennheiser 604's are unbelievable little mic's. I had to buy a replacement after one of the took one too many direct hits... but after 10 years I cannot complain. I also like this mic for distorted guitars in certain cases. i use a sm57 on the side of the snare aiming at the shell to get more afterring. The new e604 has a better shock mount than the older one. It's a similar sound though. I had 4 of these that I used for well over 10 years. It's very reliable and I like the fact it's a small enough mic I can fit it in anywhere in my kit and the audio quality is very good. They are also super durable.
